The Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) has officially opened applications for its 2026 School of Government Fellowship.
This prestigious program invites a new cohort of experts to Jakarta to collaborate on addressing critical public policy challenges facing Southeast Asia and the broader East Asian region.
The fellowship serves as a cornerstone for ERIA’s mission to establish a leading public policy school that fosters governance excellence across the region.
By connecting scholars and practitioners, the institute aims to create a vibrant intellectual hub for policy exchange and regional community-building.
Funding and benefits
Selected fellows will receive a monthly residency allowance of up to USD 5,000 to support their research activities and living expenses.
Participants will be primarily based at ERIA’s Jakarta offices, gaining unique access to the ASEAN Secretariat environment, specialized research libraries, and a global network of regional policymakers.
Application requirements and eligibility
The call is open to applicants of all nationalities who hold a doctoral degree or possess at least 10 years of experience as government officials.
Candidates must demonstrate high proficiency in English and have a proven professional track record in academia, government, or international organizations.
Prospective fellows are required to submit a digital application package including a current CV, a list of publications or thesis summary (for academics), and two letters of recommendation.
A core component of the application is a five-page project proposal detailing the research’s significance and methodology.
Reviewers will prioritize research proposals that focus on regional interests and multi-country collaborations within ASEAN rather than purely national issues.
Projects are expected to be original, urgent, and capable of providing valid conclusions that benefit international policy conversations.
The competitive selection process consists of a document screening followed by individual interviews for shortlisted candidates.
During these interviews, applicants will have the opportunity to discuss their expertise and explain how their work aligns with ERIA’s regional mission.
Deadline
The application period closes on May 31, 2026, at 23:59 WIB, with all materials and recommendation letters due by this time.
Shortlisted candidates will be notified in June, and the fellowship terms, ranging from three to eleven months, will commence on October 1, 2026.
