The Pulitzer Center is now accepting applications for the sixth cohort of its Rainforest Investigations Network (RIN).

This initiative utilizes cross-border collaboration to investigate the intersection of corruption, climate change, and governance within the world’s most critical ecosystems.

Selected fellows will spend a full year focusing on the Amazon, the Congo Basin, and Southeast Asia.

Investigations will target the financial incentives and global supply chains that drive industrial-scale deforestation.

Funding and benefits

This is a full-time, yearlong fellowship that provides financial support to cover a reporter’s salary.

The program also funds reporting-related expenses, including travel costs and the hiring of specialized consultants.

Beyond financial aid, journalists receive comprehensive training in data analysis, satellite imagery, and follow-the-money research techniques.

A multidisciplinary team of editors provides editorial guidance and helps connect fellows with global investigative partners.

Application requirements and eligibility

The network is seeking seasoned investigative journalists with a proven track record in the target regions.

Both staff and freelance reporters may apply, though freelancers must have a host newsroom that agrees to publish their work.

Applicants must submit ambitious and impactful project proposals that aim to uncover systemic wrongdoing or hidden legal loopholes.

While the network prioritizes reporters from tropical regions, those based elsewhere may apply if their work focuses on the Amazon, Congo Basin, or Southeast Asia.

Candidates are required to provide a statement of purpose, a distribution plan, and three examples of previous high-impact work.

Applications must also include a copy of the reporter’s résumé and a letter of support from their news organization.

Deadline

All applications must be submitted via the online form by May 22, 2026, at 11:59pm EST.

Materials are accepted in multiple languages, including English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, and Bahasa Indones
