The People’s Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) has announced it is now accepting applications for its Conservation Insight Grants, aimed at protecting the world’s most vulnerable wildlife.
These grants target projects that bridge the gap between scientific research and practical conservation action.
High priority is given to initiatives that gather evidence for mitigation work or use data to influence local and international policy.
Recently funded projects include innovative efforts like testing acoustic reflectors for dolphins and restoring grasslands with community partners.
Funding and benefits
Successful applicants can receive between £3,000 and £10,000 per year, with a maximum total award of £20,000 over two years.
This funding is designed to support the generation of evidence that enables critical conservation interventions.
Beyond financial aid, finalists entering the second stage of the application process will receive specialized online training.
This session focuses on “Conservation Evidence,” a University of Cambridge initiative that helps researchers identify which interventions have proven effective globally.
Application requirements and eligibility
The call is open to researchers and conservationists established in the UK, its overseas territories, or countries not classified as high-income by the World Bank.
The trust specifically prioritises native project leaders working within their own countries to ensure local leadership.
Applicants must focus on species listed as endangered, critically endangered, or extinct in the wild by the IUCN.
However, the trust maintains a strict policy excluding all bird species from this specific funding stream.
The competition is expected to be fierce, with approximately 20 applicants invited to submit full proposals after an initial screening.
Ultimately, only five to six projects are chosen for final funding following a review by the PTES trustees.
Deadline
The application window uses a two-stage process, starting with a standardised pre-application form to reduce the burden on researchers.
All pre-applications must be submitted electronically by 23:59 (UK time) on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
