The UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme is accepting applications for the 2025 MAB Young Scientists Awards.

These awards support young researchers, particularly from developing countries, in conducting interdisciplinary projects that align with UNESCO’s objectives within biosphere reserves.

Award Details

– Funding: Up to $5,000 to facilitate research on ecosystems, natural resources, and biodiversity.

– Focus Areas: Interdisciplinary research within biosphere reserves, contributing to the Lima Action Plan and Sustainable Development Goals.

Eligibility Criteria

– 35 years old or younger at the application closing date.

– Submit the official application form, available in English and French.

– Obtain endorsement from the country’s MAB National Committee or National Commission for UNESCO.

– Interdisciplinary research within biosphere reserves.

Focus Areas

Special Focus on Marine, Island, and Coastal Research

In collaboration with the Principality of Monaco, five additional awards are available for research focusing on marine, island, and coastal ecosystems.

Application Process

  1. Complete the application form.
  2. Obtain an endorsement from the respective MAB National Committee or National Commission for UNESCO.
  3. Submit the application via email to mab@unesco.org by May 15, 2025.
