Mama Cash, the world’s first international women’s fund, has announced the opening of its Solidarity Fund, a dedicated initiative designed to empower and strengthen the feminist funding ecosystem.

This strategic fund acknowledges women’s funds as the backbone of support for courageous feminist movements worldwide, helping them resist backlash and advance their human rights agendas.

The fund operates on the principles of radical trust and solidarity, moving away from traditional top-down grantmaking.

By focusing on the organizational health of these funds, Mama Cash aims to ensure the long-term resilience of the infrastructure that supports women, girls, trans, and intersex activists.

Funding and benefits

Successful applicants will receive a grant valued between €30,000 and €40,000 for a period of one year.

These resources are intended to support internal organizational needs that the funds identify for themselves, rather than for regranting purposes.

Eligible groups can use the funding for various internal priorities, such as leadership transitions, improving digital security, developing financial resilience strategies, or strengthening staff collective care.

This flexibility allows women’s funds to address the specific challenges they face in their unique regional contexts.

Application requirements and eligibility

To be eligible for a Solidarity Fund grant, an organization must be a self-led women’s fund.

This means that the people directly affected by the issues, women, girls, trans, and intersex people, must be the ones leading the fund and making its key decisions.

Additionally, applicants must be autonomous or have a clear plan to become independent from larger entities within two to three years.

The primary activity of the applicant must be making financial grants to support rights-based organizing, though membership in the Prospera network is not a requirement.

The selection process utilizes participatory grantmaking, where eligible women’s funds review and score each other’s proposals.

Participating reviewers commit to evaluating at least 10 short proposals, ensuring that the funding decisions are transparent and made by peers within the feminist movement.

Deadline

The application window for this year’s cycle officially opens on April 1, 2026, and will accept submissions until April 30, 2026.

Interested organizations can submit their applications in English, Spanish, or French via email to the Solidarity Fund team.
