The African Leadership Centre (ALC) at King’s College London has officially opened its doors for the 2026/2027 academic year, seeking a new generation of leaders to tackle the continent’s most pressing challenges.

This latest call for applications aims to build a robust community capable of generating cutting-edge knowledge in the fields of peace, security, and development.

At the heart of the initiative is the Fellowship for African Scholars, which offers a unique path for young professionals to impact global discourse through a dedicated MSc programme at King’s.

The program bridges academic study with practical leadership training, specifically focusing on the MSc Global Leadership and Peacebuilding curriculum.

A specialized track is also available for Sudanese women who are already active in grassroots activism or community leadership.

This fellowship focuses on empowering those working to influence conflict dynamics and advance peace efforts directly within Sudan.

Funding and benefits

Selected candidates for the Associate Fellowship Bursaries, including those from Africa and the broader Global South, will receive significant financial support for their studies.

This includes a bursary covering 25 per cent of their tuition fees in addition to a £5,000 contribution toward their living expenses in London.

For those accepted into the Peace and Security Fellowship for Sudanese Women, the award covers a fully residential one-year program.

This journey includes six months of study at King’s College London and the University of Nairobi, followed by a six-month placement at an African regional organization or center of excellence.

Application requirements and eligibility

Eligibility varies by program, specifically targeting African scholars, students from the Global South, and women activists committed to leadership and security.

Applicants for the degree-awarding fellowships must apply for the MSc Global Leadership and Peacebuilding on a full-time basis for the 2026/27 academic year.

The application process requires a dual submission; candidates must create a King’s Apply account to apply for their specific fellowship program while also submitting an application through the ALC-Nairobi portal.

Successful applicants must demonstrate a clear passion for a career in leadership and a desire to influence policy across the continent.

Deadline

Prospective fellows must submit their applications by May 24, 2026, to be considered for these prestigious roles.

Additionally, the DJ Cuppy Hardship Fund remains open until June 15, 2026, providing targeted emergency support for African students at King’s who face unexpected financial challenges during their studies.
