The African Leadership Centre (ALC) has officially opened its call for applications for the 2026/2027 academic year, inviting the next generation of scholars to shape the continent’s future.
This initiative is designed to build a community of leaders capable of generating cutting-edge knowledge in peace, security, and development.
Through these programs, the ALC aims to empower young professionals to impact both discourse and practice within Africa.
The fellowships offer a unique blend of high-level academic study at King’s College London and practical exposure to the experiences of established global leaders.
Funding and benefits
Successful candidates for the Associate Fellowships will receive a financial package that covers 25 per cent of their tuition fees.
In addition, these fellows will receive five thousand pounds (£5,000) to help offset living expenses during their time in London.
For those pursuing the Peace and Security Fellowships for Sudanese Women, the program provides a fully residential one-year experience.
This includes six months of study at King’s College London and the University of Nairobi, followed by a six-month placement at an African regional organization.
Application requirements and eligibility
The fellowships are open to young African scholars and students from the Global South who are pursuing an MSc in Global Leadership and Peacebuilding.
The Sudanese Women’s award specifically targets activists already working to influence conflict dynamics and peace efforts in their communities.
Prospective fellows must navigate a dual application process by creating a King’s Apply account and submitting a separate application through the ALC-Nairobi portal.
Failure to complete both steps may disqualify an applicant from consideration.
African students facing unforeseen financial crises can also apply to the DJ Cuppy Hardship Fund, which covers living costs and immigration health surcharges.
Applicants for this fund must submit a 500-word motivation letter and supporting documentation, such as bank statements, to the ALC.
Deadline
The clock is ticking for interested scholars, as the application deadline for most fellowship programs is 24 May 2026.
However, those applying for the DJ Cuppy Hardship Fund for the 2025–2026 academic year have until 15 June 2026 to submit their materials.
