The BrightFocus Foundation has launched a new request for proposals to fund groundbreaking research into the understanding, prevention, and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

This international effort invites domestic and global scientists to submit pioneering projects that could lead to future cures.

Emphasizing creativity, the foundation is particularly interested in supporting researchers from diverse backgrounds.

Applications are strongly encouraged from individuals in groups underrepresented within the Alzheimer’s research community to foster fresh scientific perspectives.

Funding and benefits

The foundation offers substantial financial support through its Standard Awards, which provide a total value of $300,000.

These grants are distributed as $100,000 per year for up to three years to support high-risk, high-reward innovations in Alzheimer’s and related dementias.

Junior researchers can apply for Postdoctoral Fellowship Awards, which provide $200,000 over a two-year period.

This funding is intended to help young scientists in their final stages of training establish the foundation for an independent career.

Application requirements and eligibility

Eligibility for the Postdoctoral Fellowship is restricted to those within five years of their degree conferral.

Meanwhile, the Early Career Investigator track of the Standard Award is available to researchers within 15 years of earning their degree.

The program also seeks Independent Investigators, specifically encouraging those from outside the Alzheimer’s field to apply with cross-disciplinary ideas.

To remain eligible, these applicants should not hold an active R01 or equivalent grant for a closely related research topic.

Deadline

The application window for these grants officially opened on June 1, 2026. All researchers must submit their full proposals by the final deadline of September 1, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. EST.

Notably, the program has updated its process and no longer requires a Letter of Intent before submission.

Prospective applicants are advised that the program is highly competitive and prioritizes innovation above all else.
