The “la Caixa” Foundation has officially opened its 2026 International Cooperation Call, inviting organizations to submit projects aimed at reducing poverty and inequality across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

This initiative seeks to drive social innovation by empowering local communities and fostering systemic change for the world’s most vulnerable populations.

Selected projects will utilize advanced social innovation tools, such as co-creation, prototyping, and scaling, to ensure equitable and sustainable development.

The foundation is looking for initiatives that prioritize community participation to create long-lasting impact in the regions they serve.

Funding and benefits

The call is organized into three primary areas of action: socioeconomic development, health and community wellbeing, and education.

Funding will support projects ranging from strengthening local businesses and entrepreneurship to improving primary healthcare services and access to clean water.

Beyond these core sectors, the foundation prioritizes cross-cutting themes that enhance project quality.

Applicants are encouraged to integrate perspectives on gender equality, climate change protection, and the use of emerging technologies to ensure their interventions are both modern and inclusive.

Application requirements and eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must be non-profit organizations or social economy entities, such as foundations or cooperatives, with a clear mission in international development.

Furthermore, these organizations must be legally registered and based in either Spain or Portugal.

Qualified entities must demonstrate at least three years of documented experience in international cooperation and work alongside a local partner in the country where the project is implemented.

Additionally, the applying organization’s total annual income for 2025 must not exceed 2 million euros.

The application process is conducted entirely online through the foundation’s dedicated platform, starting with the registration of a designated project manager.

Once the manager’s identity is validated, a process that can take up to three business days, the entity can complete its accreditation and submit the formal proposal.

Deadline

The submission window opened on April 15, 2026, and all applications must be finalized by May 20, 2026, at 5:00 PM.

To assist potential applicants, a live-streamed informational session will be held on April 16, 2026, to provide technical guidance and answer questions regarding the process.
