Global agricultural supply chains are facing a new era of accountability, and the Due Diligence Fund (DDF) is stepping in to support the transition.
The fund has officially opened its fifth call for proposals, seeking innovative projects that tackle human rights and environmental risks directly at the source.
Funding and benefits
Backed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the initiative offers substantial financial support for selected projects.
Successful applicants can access funding of up to 250,000 EUR through two distinct windows designed to foster practical and scalable solutions.
Beyond capital, partners receive expert guidance throughout the development and implementation phases.
They also gain entry into a global network of specialized knowledge, helping them transform complex regulatory requirements into workable field practices.
This year’s round places a specific spotlight on gender equality and social inclusion, coinciding with the International Year of the Woman Farmer.
Projects that actively empower primary producers and smallholders are particularly encouraged to apply for these resources.
Application requirements and eligibility
Eligibility hinges on cross-border collaboration between diverse stakeholders.
Proposals must be submitted by partnerships that include at least one company based in the EU, the European Economic Area, Switzerland, or the UK.
These partnerships must also involve either a company in an OECD-DAC listed country or a non-profit organization with relevant expertise.
All private sector participants must be actively engaged in the production, processing, or distribution of agricultural goods.,
Selected projects are expected to go beyond mere legal compliance with frameworks like the EU’s CSDDD or Germany’s LkSG.
The fund prioritizes risk-based, prozess-oriented approaches that demonstrate a high potential for mitigating adverse impacts on both people and the environment.
Deadline
Interested parties have until June 15, 23:59 CEST to submit their short proposals via email to the GIZ management team.
The selection process will move from initial concept notes to a more detailed planning phase for shortlisted candidates later this summer.
