European National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) has officially launched its second “Spaces of Culture” call for proposals, targeting innovative cultural relations projects across Sub-Saharan Africa.
This initiative, part of the Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture programme, aims to bridge the gap between African and European creators through equal partnerships and shared creative visions.
The program supports a wide array of sectors, from contemporary arts and the creative industries to digitalization and heritage conservation.
By prioritizing co-creation and mutual listening, the call seeks to foster lasting collaborations that strengthen cross-border ties and promote local ownership.
Funding and benefits
Selected projects are eligible for financial support of up to EUR 50,000 to bring their concepts to life.
This funding is backed by the European Union and is designed to support projects that demonstrate a strong commitment to social impact and long-term collaboration.
Successful applicants are required to provide a minimum of 5% co-funding from project partners.
The implementation phase is scheduled to run for one year, beginning in September 2026 and concluding in August 2027.
Application requirements and eligibility
To qualify, projects must be situated within Sub-Saharan Africa and implemented through a specific triangular partnership.
This structure requires the involvement of at least three local cultural or civil society partners, three EUNIC members, and an EU Delegation.
Proposals must be jointly defined and co-developed by all partners to ensure fair and equal collaboration.
All application materials, including the budget and support letters, must be submitted in English for evaluation by an independent jury of experts.
Deadline
Prospective partners are urged to begin engaging on their initial concepts and partnerships before April 30, 2026.
This early engagement period allows teams to align their goals and refine their project ideas before the final submission phase.
The final window for submitting full applications closes on June 21, 2026, at 23:59 CAT.
Interested organizations must send their completed application forms and supporting documents to the official program email to be considered for selection.
