The hunt for the world’s most promising young researchers at the intersection of technology and ecology has officially begun with the launch of the Digital GreenTalents Award 2026.

This prestigious competition invites high-achieving students and graduates to present their digital solutions for pressing environmental challenges.

Funding and benefits

While the program focuses on fostering international collaboration, the primary benefit for awardees is the opportunity to propose and conduct a research stay in Germany.

Candidates are encouraged to identify up to three German research groups or companies where they could explore their scientific interests and advance their professional careers.

Participation in the program also offers entry into an elite network of peers and experts dedicated to sustainable digital innovation.

Beyond the research stay, winners are expected to actively engage in all components of the Digital GreenTalents program to build their visions for a greener future.

Application requirements and eligibility

The award targets a specific tier of academic excellence: doctoral candidates, recent PhD graduates, or Master’s students in their final year.

Applicants should generally be 30 years of age or younger, though the jury provides exceptions for circumstances such as childcare.

Applicants must demonstrate distinctly above-average grades and a high command of the English language.

It is important to note that the competition is specifically designed for international talent; German citizens and those currently living or working in Germany are ineligible to apply.

To provide a holistic view of their potential, candidates must go beyond paper qualifications by recording a 60-second video pitch.

This short presentation is a chance for researchers to showcase their passion, research goals, and personal visions for sustainable development.

Deadline

The application window is strictly time-bound, opening on May 15th and closing on June 15th.

Interested researchers must complete the entire process through an online tool, which includes submitting a motivation statement of up to 500 words.

To ensure a valid submission, all documents must be formatted as PDFs under 2MB, while the video pitch must be uploaded separately to the designated cloud platform.

The organizers emphasize that applications sent via email will not be accepted, making timely online submission critical.
