Nurse innovators worldwide are being called to “Take It Apart. Fix It. Build It Better” as applications officially open for the 2026 NurseHack4Health Pitch-A-Thon.
This open innovation event aims to empower nurses to solve critical challenges within the healthcare workforce and workplace through creative, interdisciplinary solutions.
Successful applicants will move through a structured journey, including an Innovation Academy and a live virtual Pitch-A-Thon on November 12, 2026.
Finalists will present their projects to expert judges for a chance to secure significant grant funding to bring their ideas to life.
Funding and benefits
A total of $400,000 in grant funding is available across three distinct tracks.
High-resource global health systems and nursing organizations can vie for up to $225,000, while those in low-to-mid-resource countries are eligible for up to $175,000 in support.
For U.S.-based nurse-founded startups with less than $50,000 in capital, direct funding of up to $35,000 is available.
Beyond financial support, participants gain access to free workshops on design thinking, AI prompts, and pitch crafting, with some modules offering continuing education contact hours.
Application requirements and eligibility
Eligibility is strictly centered on interdisciplinary teams that must be nurse-led.
Projects must specifically target the creation of a thriving workforce or a healthier work environment, with a clear plan for sustainability beyond the grant cycle.
Applicants from health systems must hold 501(c)(3) status or a global equivalent, while startups must be registered in the United States with a valid bank account.
Implementation of the chosen projects is expected to begin by January 2027 and conclude by December 31, 2027.
Deadline
The window to submit project proposals closes on September 21, 2026, at 11:59 PM ET.
Most teams find the initial application process straightforward, typically requiring about one hour to complete the written submission.
Interested nurse leaders are encouraged to download the applicant toolkit or attend upcoming general info sessions to prepare their materials.
Following the September deadline, selected finalists will enter an intensive Innovation Accelerator beginning in October.
