Tennis Australia is inviting high-calibre founders to “turbocharge” their businesses through the eighth intake of its AO Startups program.

This initiative aims to discover groundbreaking technology that can be built, tested, or piloted during the Australian Open and across other professional and community sport environments.

The program is specifically scouting for innovation in Robotics in Sport, Live Event Tech, All things Padel, and Community Sport Tech.

Founders working outside these specific categories are also encouraged to apply under “The Wildcard” stream if their technology aims to revolutionize health, entertainment, or sustainability.

Funding and benefits

Successful applicants will gain significant brand credibility by being officially designated as an “AO Startup,” a title they can leverage in press releases and on their own marketing channels.

Participants also receive direct access to a network of Tennis Australia executives, venture capitalists, and industry leaders to help accelerate their journey toward sustained success.

Beyond networking, the program provides tailored pilot opportunities and product development support.

Whether testing directly with elite athletes or launching a proof of concept at one of the world’s highest-profile sporting events, startups gain critical exposure and learning within a real-world ecosystem.

While the program is not a traditional accelerator, it offers a clear pathway to ongoing commercial relationships.

In exchange for the tailored pilot or proof of concept experience, Tennis Australia retains the option to invest in participating companies through its venture capital fund, Wildcard Ventures.

Application requirements and eligibility

AO Startups is a global initiative, accepting applications from founders in any country.

To be eligible for the 2026 Portfolio, companies must be incorporated, though the program considers technologies at all stages, from pre-product startups needing development assistance to in-market companies ready for a large-scale pilot.

The evaluation process focuses on several key factors, including the quality of the team, market opportunity, and the level of ambition.

Tennis Australia is seeking high-calibre founders with exceptional products that can challenge the status quo and have a meaningful impact on the trajectory of both the startup and the sporting world.

Deadline

The window to apply for this unique opportunity is brief. Applications for the eighth intake officially opened on 23rd April 2026 and will close on 11th May 2026.

Interested founders must set up an account and complete their application through the official AO Startups online portal to be considered for an interview.
