The Disability Rights Fund (DRF) has officially launched its 2026 call for Letters of Interest (LOI), inviting Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) to apply for funding to advance disability rights across the globe.
Since 2008, the fund has remained dedicated to supporting grassroots, national, and regional organizations that reflect the diversity of their communities.
Guided by the strategic plan, “Disability-Led Futures for a Just World,” this round prioritizes applications that embrace intersectionality.
Activists working at the crossroads of disability rights and cross-cutting priorities, such as gender justice, climate justice, and Indigenous rights—are particularly encouraged to participate in this open call.
Funding and benefits
Successful organizations in the 2026 round will typically receive grants of under $50,000 to support 12 months of advocacy work.
Projects selected through this competitive process are scheduled to begin on January 1, 2027.
While the DRF does not fund direct service provision or capital building projects, it encourages applicants to budget for essential organizational needs.
This approach allows organizations to invest in their own infrastructure while pursuing systemic change.
Application requirements and eligibility
Eligibility is specifically tailored to OPDs, which the fund defines as organizations where the majority of staff, board members, and volunteers identify as persons with disabilities or their family members.
This year’s open call is available to organizations operating in sub-Saharan Africa, South and South-East Asia, Pacific Island Countries, and Haiti.
The fund maintains strict exclusions, noting that it cannot provide grants to individuals, governmental entities, or public institutions such as universities.
Additionally, funding is not available for scholarships, conference attendance, or emergency rapid-response needs at this time.
Deadline
Interested organizations must submit their initial Letter of Interest through the DRF application portal by Sunday, June 21, 2026, at 11:59 PM EDT.
To assist applicants, the fund is hosting virtual information sessions throughout early June in multiple languages, including English, French, and Bahasa Indonesian.
Organizations that successfully pass the initial stage will be invited on July 28 to submit a full application, which will be due by August 23, 2026.
Final grantmaking decisions for the 2026 round are expected to be announced in December.
