Applications are now open for the Florence Bamidele Makanjuola (FBM) Scholarship for young women.

The scholarship, an initiative of the Opekete Foundation, was established in honour of the late Florence Bamidele Makanjuola (1921–2021), a champion of education and healthcare.

A former nursing student in the United Kingdom through a scholarship herself, Makanjuola dedicated her life to advancing professional development in these critical sectors.

The FBM Scholarship for Women supports young women pursuing careers in nursing and teaching, with a focus on disciplines in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Scholarship Benefits

  • Secondary School Students: Up to ₦350,000 annually per student
  • University Students: Up to ₦650,000 annually per student

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be female Nigerian citizens
  • Be currently enrolled in or have gained admission into a public senior secondary school or university
  • Be attending or planning to attend a public or federal government-owned institution
  • Intend to study Nursing or a STEM-related teaching course at the university level

Academic Requirements

Secondary School Applicants: Minimum of 5 distinctions (A or B) in English, Mathematics, and three other major subjects in Junior WAEC

University Applicants: Minimum of 5 distinctions (A1-B3) in English, Mathematics, and three other major subjects in WAEC/NECO in one sitting; must also meet the required JAMB cut-off score for the chosen course and institution
