Study in Taiwan: 2025 scholarship opens for Nigerian students

The Taiwan Ministry of Education has opened applications for its 2025 scholarship programme for Nigerian students  interested in pursuing degree programs in Taiwan.

The scholarship, which covers undergraduate and postgraduate studies, aims to promote interpersonal relationships between the two countries while strengthening cross-cultural ties.

In addition, the program aims to build outstanding professionals equipped with skills that meet global demands.

Funding Details

The Taiwan Ministry of Education (MOE) provides financial support to selected students, including:

  • Tuition and miscellaneous fees: Up to NTD 40,000 (approximately US$1,250) each semester. Any additional costs beyond this amount will be borne by the student.
  • Monthly living allowance:
  1. Undergraduate: NTD15,000 (approximately US$468)
  2. Master’s: NTD20,000 (approximately US$625)
  3. Doctoral: NTD20,000 (approximately US$625)

 

Scholarship Duration

Undergraduate program: maximum 4 years;

Master’s: maximum 2 years;

Doctoral: maximum 4 years.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a Nigerian citizen and not hold Taiwanese (R.O.C.) nationality.
  • Have completed high school or higher education with excellent academic records and good moral character.
  • Not a R.O.C. (Taiwan) Overseas Compatriot student;
  • Must not have previously enrolled in a programme in Taiwan for the same degree level.

Application Requirements

  • A completed Taiwan Scholarship Application Form.
  • A photocopy of a valid Nigerian passport.
  • Certified copies of the highest diploma and transcript (non-English or non-Chinese documents must be translated and authenticated by a Taiwan representative office).
  • Proof of application to a Taiwanese university (for example, receipt of application fee, acknowledgement email from the institution).
  • For non-English programs: Level 3 or above in the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL).
  • For English programs: TOEFL or other recognized English proficiency test (if English is not the applicant’s native language).
  • If applying to a program not listed under Taiwan’s official English Program List, applicants must provide proof from the university confirming it is an all-English program.
  • Two signed and sealed reference letters from a principal, university president, professor or supervisor.
  • A completed “Taiwan Scholarship Terms of Agreement.”

Deadline

The Taiwan Scholarship year runs from September 1 to August 31 of the following year.
