The Biocodex Microbiota Foundation has officially launched its 2027 international call for research projects, focusing on the critical intersection of diet-microbiome interactions and immune function.

This year’s initiative seeks innovative proposals that explore how these interactions can be harnessed to treat human disease.

Funding and benefits

The foundation is offering a substantial €200,000 grant to support a single research project lasting between one and three years.

These funds are designated for universities, hospitals, and other research institutions to cover equipment, staffing, and operational costs.

Researchers should note that the grant is paid annually, contingent upon the submission of interim reports for projects exceeding one year.

However, the foundation will not fund travel, accommodation, or publication costs, and institutional overheads are strictly limited to 10%.

Application requirements and eligibility

Eligibility is global, inviting physicians, PhDs, and Pharm-Ds from any country to apply, provided they work in relevant fields like internal medicine or microbiology.

While former international grant winners are excluded, investigators who previously secured national-level grants remain eligible.

To qualify, projects must focus on human subjects in a disease context and must include microbiome analysis, immunophenotyping, and a dietary component.

Purely observational studies and research conducted solely on healthy individuals will be excluded from consideration.

Candidates are required to submit a comprehensive application in English, featuring a two-page CV, a three-page project description, and a detailed budget and timeline.

The application must also include both a confidential scientific summary and a non-confidential summary for public use.

Deadline

All application materials must be submitted electronically to the foundation by November 30, 2026, at 24:00 CET.

The foundation warns that late submissions will not be accepted for review and reserves the right to postpone the call if applications are insufficient.

An independent International Scientific Committee will evaluate proposals based on scientific quality, originality, and feasibility.

The final funding decision for this prestigious award is scheduled to be announced in May 2027.
