The World Photography Organisation has officially launched its search for the next generation of visual storytellers through the annual Sony World Photography Awards Youth Competition.
This international platform is specifically designed to showcase the diverse perspectives and technical skills of young photographers who can capture the essence of a moment in a single, striking image.
The competition is currently welcoming entries for its 20th edition, encouraging a wide variety of photographic styles, genres, and creative approaches.
Whether through portraiture, landscapes, or experimental shots, participants are invited to share their most standout images taken during the past year.
Funding and benefits
Participation in the competition is entirely free, ensuring that talented young artists from all backgrounds can compete on a global stage without financial barriers.
The overall winner will be honored with the prestigious title of “Youth Competition Winner” and will receive high-end Sony Digital Imaging equipment to help further their professional development.
In addition to hardware, the top winner will receive flights and accommodation to attend the high-profile awards ceremony in London.
Shortlisted photographers also gain significant global press exposure and will see their work featured in the official annual book and displayed at a major international exhibition.
Application requirements and eligibility
The Youth competition is open to all members of the public aged 19 and under as of the competition’s closing date.
To be eligible for consideration, all submitted photographs must have been taken during the calendar year of 2026.
Applicants are permitted to submit up to three single images via the official World Photography Organisation website, following the specific theme outlined for the year.
Technical specifications require that all entries be JPEG files between 1MB and 5MB, saved using the sRGB color model.
Prospective entrants under the age of 16 must secure parental or legal guardian consent to participate in the contest.
The organization emphasizes that photographers retain full ownership of their copyrights, though winners and shortlisted artists grant a license for their work to be used in promotional materials and exhibitions.
Deadline
The submission window is currently open and will close promptly on January 5, 2027, at 16:00 GMT.
Following the deadline, a panel of judges will select a shortlist of up to 10 photographers who will then compete for the overall title to be announced in April 2027.
