In efforts to address cases of boat mishaps in Lagos State’s waters, the Lagos Zone of the National Inland Waterways Authority or NIWA has set up a search and rescue centre.

This development is coming after the training of 17 staff on activation, identification and direction of safety ecology towards distressed boats.

While addressing the search and rescue officers, Sarat Lara Braimah, area manager of NIWA in Lagos, appreciated NIWA’s managing director, George Moghalu, for approving the setting up of the centre a few weeks after unveiling navigational buoys to enable safe water transportation in Lagos.

He, therefore, urged the search and rescue team to discharge its mandate effectively.
