The Tokyo Global Innovation Challenge (TGIC) 2025 has opened applications, inviting university students worldwide to submit bold and transformative business concepts.

Supported by a Tokyo Metropolitan Government Grant-in-Aid, the challenge provides a platform for students to unleash their creativity and develop business ideas capable of driving real global impact.

At the heart of this year’s theme, “Go Beyond Boundaries,” participants are encouraged to break limits, cross disciplines and transcend borders in their thinking. The contest serves as a space where curiosity meets the practical power of entrepreneurship, enabling students to turn innovative ideas into sustainable business models.

What’s on offer

To inspire boundary-pushing ideas and tangible impact, TGIC 2025 offers over $6,600 in prizes.

Additionally, participants will gain access to a strong network of academic institutions, including Waseda University, Sophia University and the Tokyo University of Science.

Entrants can also take part in a business development camp and an English pitch workshop to sharpen their presentation skills and business storytelling abilities.

Who can apply

The challenge welcomes university students from around the world, including both international students and those enrolled in Japanese universities.

Eligible participants are current undergraduate or graduate students. Each team must ensure their business concept is student-led and that all presentations are conducted entirely in English.

Requirements:

  • Teams must consist of three to six undergraduate or graduate students.

  • Teams can include Japanese-only, international-only or mixed members.

  • All presentations, including the symposium and final contest, must be conducted entirely in English.

How to apply

To apply, teams must complete and submit the official TGIC 2025 application form.

A key component of the submission is a pitch video not exceeding five minutes. Applicants should upload the video to a secure cloud platform such as Google Drive and provide the access link within the application form.

Deadline

The deadline for applications is November 15, 2025. Visit the Tokyo Global Innovation Challenge website to apply.
