This initiative supports postdoctoral researchers aiming to build long-term academic careers in Germany, offering funding for independent research abroad with a structured reintegration phase in the German science system.

Program Overview

The PRIME programme provides:

  • An 18-month employment contract at a German university.

  • A 12-month research stay abroad, followed by a mandatory return phase in Germany.

  • Flexibility to conduct research at multiple institutions across one or more countries during the international phase.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Hold above-average academic qualifications from any discipline.

  • Have completed their doctorate with excellent results before the funding start date.

  • Be of any nationality, though some restrictions may apply depending on residency and destination country.

Application Process

Interested candidates should apply through the DAAD application portal.
To access the portal:

  • Click on “Stipendiendatenbank für Deutsche.”

  • Enter your research subject (“Fachrichtung”), destination country (“Zielland”), and select “Programme für: Promovierte” to find the relevant programme.

Applications must be submitted by August 29, 2025.
