Nigerian Academy of Engineering invites entries for innovation competition

The Nigerian Academy of Engineering (NAEng) has opened submissions for the third edition of its National Innovation Competition, inviting innovators across Nigeria to present practical solutions to pressing national challenges.

Aim

The competition is designed as a platform for practical, solution-driven ideas that address real problems facing Nigeria. It targets innovations that go beyond theory and demonstrate clear potential for application, scalability and measurable impact.

Benefits

Winning entries will receive cash prizes, certificates, plaques and public recognition.

In addition to these awards, selected innovators will gain visibility among potential investors, creating pathways for promising ideas to advance toward large-scale adoption and national deployment.

Who can enter

The competition is open to a broad range of Nigerian innovators engaged in engineering, science and technical creativity.

Eligible applicants include:

  • Nigerian engineers, scientists, technologists, technicians and craftsmen

  • Other professionals involved in engineering or technical innovation

  • Individual innovators and collaborative teams

Entries nominated by third parties are allowed; however, Fellows of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering are not eligible to participate as entrants.

Entry requirements

Submissions are expected to align with key sectors critical to Nigeria’s development.

These include ICT and telecommunications, agriculture and food processing, energy and energy transition, renewable energy, infrastructure, health systems, waste management, transportation, mining, manufacturing, artificial intelligence, robotics and climate-related challenges.

All entries should clearly demonstrate engineering-based problem-solving and practical innovation.
