March of Dimes is issuing a global call to seasoned scientists to help tackle the nation’s ongoing maternal and infant health crisis.

The organization has officially opened applications for its Discovery Research Grants, representing its highest tier of funding for researchers aiming to revolutionize clinical care for pregnant people and babies.

Funding and benefits

Selected researchers will receive $200,000 in funding over a two-year period, which includes 10% for indirect costs.

Beyond the financial award, recipients gain entry into a prestigious global network of experts committed to ending preventable preterm births and infant deaths.

The grant program focuses on two critical priorities: preventing spontaneous preterm birth and mitigating cardiovascular conditions that develop or worsen during pregnancy.

Every proposal must demonstrate a clear path toward improving clinical care and reducing patient morbidity and mortality rates.

Grantees are expected to serve as active partners, participating in scientific meetings and collaborating with other research centers and nonprofit organizations.

This collaboration also involves assisting in fundraising efforts and sharing publications to help amplify the public impact of their discoveries.

Application requirements and eligibility

This global opportunity is open to health professionals, social scientists, and epidemiologists who hold doctoral degrees and faculty appointments at academic or research institutions.

Applications are also welcomed from researchers within startups, nonprofits, and pharmaceutical companies dedicated to maternal-infant health.

Candidates may only submit one application as a Primary or Co-Primary Investigator and cannot hold any other active March of Dimes grants at the time of application.

Required materials include a detailed project abstract, preliminary data, a biographical sketch, and a comprehensive budget justification.

Deadline

The application portal for the current cycle is officially open as of June 8, 2026. All interested parties must finalize and submit their complete online applications by the firm deadline of September 8, 2026.

Following the review process, successful applicants will be notified of their awards in mid-January 2027.

These transformative research projects are scheduled to launch on February 1, 2027, with a performance period running through January 31, 2029.
