Grassroots organizations dedicated to education and sports can now seek significant financial backing through the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.
The initiative, a partnership between football’s governing body and the international advocacy organization, has officially opened Cycle II of its grant applications to support underserved youth worldwide.
Funding and benefits
Successful applicants stand to receive one-time grants ranging from $50,000 to $250,000 USD to bolster their community impact.
Approximately 30 organizations will be selected during this cycle to receive funding for either general operations or specific project support.
Beyond the capital, the fund leverages a high-profile advisory board, featuring stars like Hugh Jackman, Serena Williams, and Kaká—to provide strategic guidance.
This unique collaboration aims to bridge the gap between sports and philanthropy to improve literacy and learning outcomes globally.
Application requirements and eligibility
To qualify, organizations must be legally registered non-profits directly implementing activities that serve between 500 and 10,000 individuals.
Applicants are also required to demonstrate at least three years of financial stability through comprehensive audits or certified records.
Financial transparency is critical, as the total funding request must not exceed 50% of the organization’s annual budget for the proposed grant year.
Only one application per organization is permitted, and past grant recipients are ineligible to apply again during this cycle.
Reviewers will prioritize programs that address local learning barriers, such as improving educational infrastructure and ensuring inclusive practices for female students and those with disabilities.
Strategic alignment with the use of football for learning and robust child safeguarding frameworks are also essential components of a successful bid.
Deadline
The application window is brief, with the portal having opened on May 11 and scheduled to close on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 6:00 PM ET.
While the application form is currently provided in English, applicants are permitted to submit their materials in their native language.
Following the deadline, candidates who pass the initial screening may be invited for interviews with fund officials, with final award notifications expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Interested parties can access the application forms and further details directly through the Global Citizen platform.
