Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, has unveiled a new grant mechanism specifically designed to empower civil society organizations (CSOs) in the fight against preventable diseases.

The initiative targets “zero-dose” children and missed communities, aiming to ensure that no child is left behind in global immunization efforts.

Funding and benefits

Organizations can choose between two main grant types: Accelerator grants and Impact grants.

Accelerator grants provide smaller-scale funding for national or sub-national CSOs that are new to immunization, offering them a vital opportunity to build expertise and a formal presence in the field.

For larger, more established national or global entities working in fragile or humanitarian contexts, Impact grants offer significant resources for large-scale operations.

These grants are designed to support diverse activities, including vaccine demand generation, service delivery improvements, and sustainable supply chain management.

Successful grantees also receive extensive technical and financial guidance to strengthen their organizational capacity.

This includes specialized resources for integrating gender equality, social inclusion, and rigorous safeguarding policies into their public health projects.

Application requirements and eligibility

Eligibility is determined through a multi-step process that begins with mandatory registration on Gavi’s online grant management portal, Grantelope.

Projects must align with core priorities, such as increasing routine immunization coverage, rolling out HPV vaccines, or integrating COVID-19 vaccinations into regular health services.

Applicants are required to submit a detailed Project Workbook featuring a results framework, a comprehensive workplan, and a learning plan.

Additionally, organizations must upload their official registration documents and their most recently audited financial accounts for transparency and vetting.

For the current call targeting health financing in Nigeria, CSOs are strongly encouraged to participate in a guidance webinar scheduled for April 21, 2026.

This session is vital for understanding country-specific nuances and the technical design required for a successful submission.

Deadline

The application window for the Nigeria call for proposals officially closes on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 16:00 GMT.

All submissions must be finalized through the Grantelope system, as late applications or those sent via email will not be considered for funding.
