The Arquetopia Foundation is officially inviting artists, writers, and researchers to apply for its professional residency programs located in Puebla and Oaxaca, Mexico, and Cusco, Peru.

Since its founding in 2009 by Francisco Guevara and Chris Davis, the Mexican nonprofit has hosted over 1,200 residents from more than 110 countries.

These programs are designed for those who view creative practice as a way to transform the world through materiality and reciprocal learning.

Participants engage in 20 various programs that prioritize research-based frameworks and non-dominant forms of knowledge over traditional production-only models.

Funding and benefits

Arquetopia operates as a strictly independent, self-sustaining organization that receives no external funding from political or religious entities.

Residents receive intensive mentoring and sustained guidance within a critically rigorous environment grounded in social justice.

The residency provides access to a vast international network of scholars, collaborators, and professional studios.

This specialized support helps artists move beyond “cultural tourism” to build a practice that is both globally relevant and ethically responsible.

Application requirements and eligibility

The foundation is looking for dedicated thinkers and makers who demand a deeper level of inquiry and are willing to unlearn inherited assumptions.

Programs are open to a diverse international community, focusing on those who wish to challenge colonial histories and extractive artistic practices.

Arquetopia is committed to inclusivity and actively fights discrimination based on race, gender expression, age, religion, or sexual orientation.

Candidates must be prepared to position themselves intentionally across cultures, treating place as a condition of responsibility rather than consumption.

Deadline

While the primary deadline for 2026 and 2027 programs was May 1, the foundation is currently granting extensions for certain opportunities.

These include short-term programs and special sessions such as the Day of the Dead residency.

Prospective applicants should email info@arquetopia.org to request specific program information and application materials.

Detailed information regarding residency spaces and available techniques can also be found on the foundation’s official website.
