The Harrison Middleton University (HMU) Fellowship in Ideas is a writing and discussion programme in the humanities designed for recent university graduates from any field who have an interest in interdisciplinary dialogue, intellectual growth and professional enrichment.

Eligibility 

  • Applicants must hold a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree in any field from a recognised institution.
  • Demonstrated interest in the humanities and the great ideas of Western civilisation.
  • Strong reading, writing, and communication abilities.
  • Ability to commit to writing two blog entries for the HMU Blog and one book review for HMU: Dialogues.

Benefits

A $500 stipend to support the fellow’s research and writing work.
Opportunity to participate in virtual Socratic discussions with university faculty and other fellows.
Fellows’ work will be published in the HMU Blog and HMU: Dialogues, offering exposure to a broad audience.
A set of Great Books Foundation publications will be provided upon completion of the fellowship term.

Requirements

A completed application form is available on the HMU website.
A 500-word statement outlining the applicant’s background, interest in the humanities and motivation for applying.
An appropriately cited expository essay of no more than 1,500 words connecting the applicant’s interest to a great idea in the humanities, related to one of the specified concentrations—imaginative literature, natural science, philosophy and religion or social science.
All materials should be submitted as Microsoft Word-compatible attachments to [email protected]
