Doctoral researchers are invited to apply for the Ariane Deluz Prize, an award supporting ethnological fieldwork in sub-Saharan Africa.

The prize supports early-stage researchers conducting field studies in key areas of ethnology—including kinship, religion, art, technology, and politics. It aims to strengthen the future of African ethnological research by investing in the next generation of scholars.

Funding and Support

The prize provides:

  • €5,000 in funding,

  • Plus additional resources to support travel and/or fieldwork expenses.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be doctoral students of any nationality currently enrolled in a French institution of higher education (either independently or under joint supervision).

  • Be in the early stages of a PhD focused on the ethnology of sub-Saharan Africa.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit:

  • A completed application form.

  • A CV (maximum 2 pages), including a list of publications and previous research.

  • A research fieldwork plan (up to 5 pages, 1500 characters or approx. 250 words per page).

  • A copy of the thesis project, signed by the thesis supervisor.

  • A short summary of the topic (maximum 5 lines).
