Applications are now open for the 2025 African Investigative Journalism Conference (AIJC2025) Fellowships, set to take place from November 5 to 7, 2025, at Wits University in Johannesburg, South Africa. This year marks the 21st edition of the continent’s largest gathering of investigative journalists.

Call for Speakers and Panels
The Wits Centre for Journalism is inviting journalists, media professionals, trainers, and academics to submit proposals for speakers, panels, themes, or training sessions. These contributions will help shape a dynamic and relevant program, ensuring AIJC2025 remains a vital platform for sharing groundbreaking stories and insights.

Fellowship Tracks
AIJC2025 is offering two fellowship tracks:

  • Early-Career Journalists: Open to practicing journalists under 30 with five or fewer years of experience.

  • Mid-Career Journalists: Designed for journalists with five or more years of experience.

Freelance journalists are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a valid passport (valid for at least six months after the conference).

  • Be prepared to produce at least one piece of investigative journalism (online, print, or broadcast) inspired by material gathered at the conference. This piece must be published within three months of the conference’s conclusion.

  • Provide proof of identity to verify age, along with a CV highlighting relevant published work.

Fellowship Benefits
Selected fellows will receive comprehensive support, including:

  • Return flights from their home country to Johannesburg.

  • Local shuttles.

  • Accommodation.

  • Conference registration fees.

  • Meals during the conference.
