The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is inviting proposals for its Global Plastics Innovation Programme (GPIP), an initiative aimed at addressing plastic pollution through grassroots innovation.

Funded by the Chinese government and the UN Peace and Development Trust Fund, the programme seeks revolutionary, locally grounded solutions to tackle plastic pollution while fostering sustainable development.

According to UNIDO’s 2021 mapping of Nigeria’s plastic value chain, there are significant untapped opportunities in material innovation, circular business models, community-led recycling, and financing tools that not only reduce plastic waste but also create jobs, support entrepreneurship, and build community resilience.

This open call supports Nigeria-based innovators and organisations working to transform these opportunities into impactful solutions.
