A Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta or FUNAAB final-year student, Oladokun Ayomide, has been arrested for allegedly poisoning his girlfriend and another person, the Ogun State Police Command confirms.
The police said Ayomide was arrested for administering a poisonous substance to Ugbokwe Mmasichukwu, his girlfriend and one other female identified as Odumosu Semilore.
The police, in their preliminary finding, said the suspect administered the substance, believed to be a mixture of brownie cakes, alcohol, and an unknown harmful substance, after inviting Mmasichukwu to his residence in the Surulere community in the Camp area of the city on Friday, November 10 2023.
According to PUNCH Metro, Mmasichukwu had asked Semilore, to accompany her to her boyfriend’s place where the duo were served the poisonous substance and died later at the hospital.
The suspect’s aim for the poisoning cannot be ascertained at the time of this report as Police investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Chief Security Officer or CSO of the Federal College of Education, Osiele Abeokuta, Olusola Ajibola, who led the arrest of the suspect, told the police that Mmasichukwu and Semilore are students of the institution, while Ayomide was a final-year student of FUNAAB.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said the victims were responding to treatment, adding that further investigations are going to unravel the circumstances behind the incident.
“The victims were believed to have been fed brownie cake, and they immediately lost consciousness after eating it and were taken to the Osiele Medical Centre for treatment.
“A foil paper pack used for the brownie cake was found when our officers visited the crime scene. The suspect was handed over to the police division by the Chief Security Officer of the school.”

Police Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola mentioned the victims were initially responding to treatment and found a foil paper pack used for the brownie cake at the crime scene.
