Court jails man for stealing bibles, caprisonne from church

A court in Kabusa, Abuja has sentenced a 30-year-old man to prison for stealing a bible and other items.

The convict, Zakaraya Usman, according to PremiumTimes, was arrested for stealing four Bibles, 124 church membership forms, bottled water, and Caprisonne drinks on Thursday, May 25, 2023. 

 O.S Osho, the Prosecution Counsel, told the court that the incident was reported by David Usman, the Chief Security Officer of Living Faith Church, Durumi 1 branch, at the Durumi Police Station.   

“Usman reportedly trespassed into the church and was accused of stealing three mini bibles, one big bible, two bottles of water, 14 Caprisonne drinks, 18 testimonial certificates, 124 church membership forms, security jackets, two shirts, two handkerchiefs, bags, and some cash.

“And all the items were recovered from him during the police investigation,” he said.

Malam Abubakar Sadiq, the Judge, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the charge. 

The judge held that the offence contravenes the provisions of section 288 of the Penal Code

He, however, gave him the option to pay a fine of N10,000 or serve the jail term while warning him to henceforth, desist from such actions.

Based on your admission to committing the crime, you are hereby convicted as charged. You are also hereby sentenced to two months imprisonment, as a fine of N10,000”, the judge rule.
