Open Startup has officially launched its 2026 call for applications for “The Science Road” program, targeting ambitious founders in the Tech and Deep Tech sectors.

The initiative seeks to empower startups building impactful solutions that contribute to economic development, environmental sustainability, and improved quality of life across the African continent.

The program offers two distinct pathways: a six-month Pre-Seed Track for startups validating early-stage prototypes and a year-long Seed Track for ventures preparing to scale their operations.

Founders are encouraged to apply with innovations in high-impact areas, including AI, ClimateTech, HealthTech, and FinTech.

Funding and benefits

Selected participants gain access to intensive in-person training bootcamps and personalized mentorship delivered by a pool of regional and global experts.

The program provides essential hands-on support, including strategic introductions and global exposure to startup ecosystems across Africa, the U.S., and Europe.

In addition to technical guidance, startups may become eligible for “small ticket” mission-aligned investments of up to $20,000 to bolster their seed fundraising rounds.

The program further offers tailored investor engagement and commercialization support to help founders navigate the path to market.

To ensure the long-term sustainability of the initiative, Open Startup utilizes a 1% “give-back” mechanism for Seed Track participants.

This contribution, implemented via a SWEAT SAFE note, is reinvested directly into the ecosystem to support future generations of African entrepreneurs.

Application requirements and eligibility

To be eligible, startups must be incorporated and operate primarily within an African country.

Applicants must demonstrate a technology-based solution to a clear problem on the continent and be led by a committed founding team.

Founders must be proficient in English and ready to participate actively in all scheduled program activities.

While the Pre-Seed Track focuses on startups with early prototypes, the Seed Track requires a validated technology and a clear path toward commercialization.

Deadline

The deadline for all interested founders to submit their complete applications is July 31st.

Programs are set to commence later in the year, with the Pre-Seed Track starting in September 2026 and the Seed Track following in November 2026.
