Blue Carbon Plus (BC+) is officially seeking innovative partners to help scale business models that protect and restore the world’s most vital coastal ecosystems.

Launched by Conservation International and The Nature Conservancy, the initiative bridges the gap between local communities and private investment to ensure long-term environmental and economic success.

These “blue carbon” habitats, including mangroves, seagrasses, and tidal marshes, are essential tools in the fight against climate change despite covering only 0.2% of the Earth’s surface.

Protecting these areas is vital, as their destruction currently releases more carbon annually than the entire transportation sector of the United States.

Funding and benefits

Selected grantee partners will receive USD 200,000 in grant finance to be utilized over a one-year period.

This funding is specifically designed to address systemic barriers that often prevent coastal conservation models from scaling to their full potential.

Participants will also benefit from technical assistance and connections to a global network of private sector partners and investors.

The program’s long-term goal is to leverage at least $50 million in early-stage venture capital for 20 or more blue economy businesses by 2050.

Application requirements and eligibility

BC+ is looking for organizations that are scalable, climate-focused, and deeply centered on the needs of local communities.

Ideal candidates are those interested in sectoral collaboration, sharing knowledge to help the entire blue carbon industry overcome common bottlenecks.

The initiative prioritizes work within mangrove, seagrass, tidal marsh, and macroalgae ecosystems.

Current specific opportunities include a consultancy for identifying high-leverage interventions and conducting supply chain analysis within Indonesia’s mud crab sector.

Deadline

Applications for the current mud crab sector consultancy in Indonesia must be submitted by Friday, June 5, at 11:59 p.m. EDT.

Following selection, partners will work with the BC+ core team for two to four weeks to co-design the final project and budget.

While specific calls for applications are released periodically, the organization maintains an open line for inquiries via their digital contact forms.

Interested stakeholders are encouraged to subscribe to the official newsletter to receive immediate updates on future funding windows.
