The African Leadership Centre (ALC) at King’s College London has officially announced a call for applications for its prestigious 2026/2027 Peace, Security & Development Fellowships.
This initiative is designed to cultivate a community of future leaders who can generate cutting-edge knowledge to impact discourse and practice across the African continent.
Interested candidates can apply for various tracks, including degree-awarding fellowships for African scholars and specialized bursaries for students from the Global South.
These programs are primarily focused on students pursuing the MSc in Global Leadership and Peacebuilding.
Funding and benefits
Successful applicants for the associate fellowship bursaries will receive a 25 per cent tuition fee waiver along with a £5,000 contribution to support their living expenses in London.
For women engaged in activism or leadership, the Peace and Security Fellowship for Sudanese Women offers a fully residential one-year program, including a six-month placement at an African regional organization or centre of excellence.
Additionally, the DJ Cuppy Hardship Fund has been established to provide emergency support for African students facing unexpected financial challenges.
This specific fund can be used to cover the Immigration Health Surcharge, accommodation, and other essential living costs, though it does not cover tuition fees.
Application requirements and eligibility
The fellowships target young African scholars and students from the Global South who are passionate about careers in security, leadership, and development.
For the Sudanese women’s award, the ALC seeks applicants who are already working to influence conflict dynamics and advance peace efforts through community initiatives or youth networks.
To apply for the degree-awarding programs, candidates must follow a two-step process: creating a King’s Apply account and submitting a separate application through the ALC-Nairobi portal.
Those seeking hardship funding must submit a motivation letter of no more than 500 words and providing documentation like bank statements to prove their unforeseen financial need.

Prospective fellows must act quickly, as the application deadline for the Peace, Security & Development programs is. 24 May, 2026.
This deadline applies to both the African scholar fellowships and the specialized bursaries for Global South students.
Applicants for the DJ Cuppy Hardship Fund have a different timeline, with a final submission deadline of 15 June 2026.
