The SENSE Foundation Brussels has officially opened its latest call for applications, seeking to fund innovative projects that align with its mission to preserve nature and health through science and education.

The foundation is targeting initiatives focused on scientific research, environmental protection, sustainable development, and health improvements, with a specific emphasis on genetics and nutrition.

Funding and benefits

Successful applicants can receive grants covering up to 25% of their project’s total annual cost, with a maximum funding limit of €25,000 per project.

These contributions are designed to act as a “booster,” providing organizations with the momentum needed to secure additional funding from other sources.

While the grants are typically one-off and non-recurring, the foundation allows up to 10% of the awarded funds to be allocated to overheads.

The support is intended for projects with a duration of nine to twelve months, scheduled for implementation between January and December 2027.

A significant priority for this funding cycle is the promotion of *inclusion, equality, and diversity.

The foundation has stated that projects led by or benefiting women and minorities will receive special focus, particularly through grants favoring Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

Application requirements and eligibility

To qualify, an organization must have been legally registered as a non-profit for at least two years and possess a 24-month track record of activities.

The foundation will not accept applications from organizations registered after January 1, 2024, or those that have previously failed to provide required impact reports.

Projects must demonstrate a realistic methodology and address at least two of the foundation’s core objectives to be considered.

Certain exclusions apply, including projects focused on mental health, commercial sponsorships, and any initiatives directly affiliated with political or religious organizations.

Deadline

Prospective applicants face two key cutoff dates: the first deadline is 5pm CEST on April 30, 2026, with decisions announced in the summer.

A second application window will remain open until 5pm CEST on September 30, 2026, with final results communicated by the end of December.

All submissions will undergo a rigorous review by the foundation’s Steering Committee based on their potential for lasting, sustainable impact.

Once a grant agreement is signed, the foundation aims to transfer funds within 30 days to ensure timely project commencement.
