VVOB, through the Regional Teachers Initiative for Africa (RTIA), is inviting education organizations to apply for new sub-grants designed to scale teacher professional development programs.

This initiative specifically targets Gender-Responsive Pedagogy (GRP) at the early childhood and lower secondary levels of learning.

The primary goal is to move beyond small-scale pilots and address deep-seated gender norms that act as root drivers of inequality in education.

By strengthening operational capacity and stakeholder alignment, the program seeks to position these initiatives for sustainable, long-term adoption within national education systems.

Funding and benefits

Successful applicants can receive up to EUR 40,000 to implement focused, practical interventions over a period of up to 12 months.

This funding is specifically intended to address clearly defined constraints that currently limit a program’s ability to expand.

Beyond the financial award, the initiative provides a platform for organizations to generate and disseminate practical insights on what works in gender-transformative teacher training.

These findings will contribute to a broader evidence base and a growing community of educational practice across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Application requirements and eligibility

To be eligible, organizations must propose interventions that are part of a broader scaling strategy and demonstrate how they will advance the program’s pathway to scale.

The call is open to education organizations that already have existing Teacher Professional Development initiatives focused on gender-responsive pedagogy.

Proposals must be submitted in either English or French, utilizing the specific application templates provided by the organization.

Applicants are required to follow the official structure to ensure their proposal meets the necessary evaluation criteria.

The final submission must be a single signed PDF document containing the full proposal, accompanied by a separate Excel file for the project budget.

All digital applications must be sent to the designated contact email at infokenya@vvob.org.

Deadline

The deadline for all submissions is May 29, 2026. Following an evaluation period in June, selected organizations are expected to begin implementation of their projects in July 2026.
