Universal health coverage remains a distant goal for billions of people, but a new global initiative is seeking the “bold ideas” and “passionate early talent” necessary to bridge this gap.

As global health data indicates the world is falling behind on emergency preparedness, the urgency for innovative solutions has never been greater.

One Young World has joined forces with Sandoz, a leader in off-patent medicines, to launch the 2026 Sandoz Scholarship.

This partnership aims to identify and support five outstanding young leaders who are actively driving positive change in global health and access to medicine.

The program targets innovators who are already pioneering practical solutions, such as creating AI tools for underserved areas, designing better supply-chain logistics for remote regions, or advocating for more affordable medicine policies.

These scholars will eventually join a global delegation to collaborate on a world stage.

Funding and benefits

Successful applicants will receive a fully funded trip to the One Young World Summit 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa.

This comprehensive package includes economy airfare, hotel accommodation from November 2 to November 7, and ground transportation between venues.

In addition to travel costs, the scholarship covers catering for breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the core Summit days.

Scholars will also benefit from exclusive Sandoz-hosted sessions and be paired with a Sandoz “buddy” to enhance their professional networking and engagement.

Application requirements and eligibility

Prospective candidates should generally be between the ages of 18 and 30 and must demonstrate a clear commitment to community leadership.

Applicants must show they have experience creating innovative solutions that specifically reduce healthcare inequalities.

While the scholarship focuses on young talent, the organizers may consider applicants over the age of 30 if they can demonstrate significant personal impact and initiative.

However, all applicants must be at least 18 years old by the time the Summit begins in November.

Deadline

The application window for this opportunity is currently open, but time is limited for those wishing to join the 2026 delegation. All submissions must be completed by the final deadline of 27April 2026
