Energie AG Oberösterreich has launched the AI-Enabled Energy Audit and Consulting for SMEs Challenge 2026, calling on forward-thinking startups to redefine how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) manage energy.

The initiative seeks to harness artificial intelligence (AI) to make energy audits faster, smarter, and more efficient—helping SMEs cut waste and meet Austria’s energy efficiency standards.

Aim

At its core, the challenge aims to develop an AI-supported system that simplifies the energy audit and consulting process for SMEs.

By automating data analysis and producing reliable, standardised energy reports, the initiative seeks to help companies make data-driven decisions about power use.

Focus areas

Proposals should tackle key priorities such as:

  • Automating energy data analysis.

  • Producing audit reports compliant with the Energieeffizienzgesetz and Kurzberichtsverordnung.

  • Offering actionable recommendations for improvement.

The challenge also encourages the integration of expert validation tools and adaptable solutions that can scale across different industries and company sizes.

Funding details

Selected startups will receive up to €50,000 in funding to develop a Proof of Concept (PoC) or Minimum Viable Product (MVP).

Beyond financial support, Energie AG may offer long-term collaboration opportunities, allowing high-impact solutions to reach the market and scale across multiple sectors.

Who can apply

The challenge is open to startups and innovators working on digital solutions that blend energy efficiency and artificial intelligence. Applicants should:

  • Have proven expertise in AI, sustainability, or energy data management.

  • Be capable of designing scalable, industry-adaptable tools.

  • Present projects that support SME-level energy optimisation.

  • Demonstrate strong potential for integration and expert validation.

Requirements

Applicants must submit a proposal detailing their solution, the technology behind it, and the expected outcomes for SMEs.

Proposals should highlight how AI will automate data analysis, ensure regulatory compliance, and generate actionable insights. Each submission should balance innovation and practicality, with clear, measurable energy savings.

How to apply

If interested, apply via Energie AG Oberösterreich’s website before January 4, 2026.
