The Climate Democracy Accelerator (CDA), an initiative of People Powered, is inviting applications from governments and civil society groups worldwide for its 2026 cohort.

The programme is designed to help organisations develop inclusive and participatory climate action programmes, with a focus on critical issues such as regenerative agriculture, renewable energy, and just transition policies.

Programme benefits

Selected teams will participate in a six-month training phase running from March to August 2026, dedicating about two to three hours weekly to collaborative learning and programme development.

Participants will receive:

  • Hands-on training and mentorship from global experts.

  • Access to the Participation Playbook, a practical guide to designing effective participatory processes.

  • Peer learning opportunities, live workshops and tailored country-level support.

Funding

Beyond training, CDA provides seed funding to help participants implement their projects.

  • Each selected team will receive a USD 10,000 implementation grant to launch a pilot climate democracy project.

  • The top five action plans from each cohort will receive an additional USD 15,000 to scale their impact.

After completing the training phase, teams will have 12 months to implement their action plans using the allocated grants.

Eligibility

The accelerator is open to organisations around the world but gives priority to applicants from Brazil, Indonesia, India, Mexico, and South Africa.
However, applications from other countries are also encouraged and may be considered for selection.

Eligible applicants include:

  • Government institutions working in partnership with civil society organisations.

  • Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) focused on participatory governance, climate policy or community-led solutions.

The programme seeks changemakers committed to piloting innovative, inclusive models that build legitimacy around climate decisions and amplify marginalised voices in policy development.

Application deadline

Applications close on November 30, 2025.
