The Mo Ibrahim Foundation is inviting applications for its fellowship programme, created to nurture the next generation of African leaders. This year-long opportunity gives mid-career professionals a chance to gain high-level work experience and mentorship at leading international institutions.

Fellows will spend 12 months at one of three host organizations:

  • The International Trade Centre (ITC) in Geneva

  • The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in Addis Ababa

  • The African Development Bank (AfDB) in Abidjan

Programme benefits

The fellowship provides direct mentorship from senior leaders, offering fellows firsthand exposure to strategic planning and international decision-making. In addition, fellows receive a stipend to cover living expenses and associated costs, enabling them to fully focus on the experience.

Who can apply

The fellowship is open to talented African professionals who demonstrate strong leadership potential. Applicants must:

  • Be a national of an African country

  • Be 40 years old or younger (up to 45 for women with children)

  • Hold a Master’s degree

  • Have at least seven years of relevant professional experience

  • Meet any additional requirements set by the chosen host institution

How to apply

Applications are managed directly by the AfDB, ECA, and ITC. Interested candidates should apply to their preferred institution through its dedicated application system, carefully reviewing its specific requirements and processes.
