UNICEF has launched its Climate Innovation Challenge, inviting companies to develop open-source technology solutions that address the climate crisis. The initiative is designed to support and scale projects that strengthen climate resilience and adaptation, particularly for children and young people in vulnerable communities.
Benefits
Winners of the challenge will receive up to US$100,000 in equity-free seed funding to advance their technology. Successful applicants will also gain access to mentorship from technical and business experts at UNICEF and its partner organisations.
The programme also provides a platform to scale innovations globally through UNICEF’s extensive network.
Who can apply
The competition is open to private companies registered in a UNICEF programme country. To qualify, applicants must:
-
Use open-source technology or present a clear plan to transition to open-source.
-
Have a working prototype that has demonstrated promising results in initial pilots or tests.
-
Show potential for meaningful impact on the lives of children and young people.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted via the UNICEF Innovation Fund’s official portal. Companies will need to provide details about their team, the proposed solution, its current stage of development and its potential for social impact.
Deadline
The deadline for submissions is 21 October 2025.
