The International Solo-Tanz-Theatre Festival in Stuttgart, Germany, is inviting applications for its 29th edition. This competition provides a global stage for contemporary solo dancers and choreographers to showcase their latest work.

The festival is dedicated to discovering and promoting fresh talent in contemporary dance, offering artists the chance to perform before an international audience and a distinguished jury.

What the festival offers

A total of €16,000 in cash prizes will be awarded:

  • Choreography and Dance Prizes: First prize (€3,500), second prize (€2,500), third prize (€1,500).

  • Audience Awards: Public’s First Choice Award (€500) and Final Choice Award (€500).

  • Residency Prizes will also be granted.

Participants will be provided accommodation in shared double rooms, with hotel costs (including breakfast) covered by the organisers, along with contributions toward travel expenses.

Prize winners must also take part in the Award Winners’ Gala of the 30th International Solo-Tanz-Theatre Festival Stuttgart 2026, a tour across Germany from 13 to 30 November 2026, with travel, hotel and meals fully covered.

Who can apply

The competition is open to artists of all nationalities, with the following requirements:

  • Dancers: must be 30 years old or younger.

  • Choreographers: no age limit.

  • The submitted work must be a contemporary solo piece lasting 9–12 minutes.

  • Performances should be recent creations (ideally world premieres) and not more than one year old.

How to apply

Applicants must submit their choreography (including a sample work) via the International Solo-Tanz-Theatre Festival website. (YouTube or Vimeo; Vimeo applicants must enable downloads).

Applications must be submitted in German or English to be considered. Admission will be determined by a board of trustees. Selected participants will receive invitations by mid-December 2025.

Applications are due on 11 November 2025, 12:00 AM (CET).
