The Kubota Fund is now accepting applications from individuals seeking to build their technical expertise and industrial capacity through education and specialised training in Japan.

The programme supports professionals from developing countries who aim to advance industrial technology and return home equipped to drive national development.

Focus 

The fund targets training engineers and technical professionals ready to strengthen industrial growth in developing nations. It promotes skills transfer, capacity building, and technological advancement gained through hands-on experience in Japan.

The overarching goal is to foster self-reliance by enabling trained individuals to contribute to economic stability, infrastructure improvement and technological development in their home countries.

Funding details

Successful applicants may receive up to USD 1,000 per month, with the exact amount determined each year by the Managing Committee.

The grant supports:

  • Study and coursework.

  • Research and technical training.

  • Activities that enhance industrial and engineering skills.

Recipients gain exposure to advanced industrial practices, professional development opportunities and Japan’s cutting-edge technological environment.

Who can apply

The grant is open to individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Nationals of developing countries.

  • Born and raised in regions with a GDP per capita below USD 7,000.

  • Intending to pursue education, research or technical training in Japan.

  • Committed to returning home to contribute to industrial and economic development.

Eligible applicants include emerging engineers, researchers and technical professionals.

Application requirements

Applicants must submit documents outlining:

  • Their proposed study or training plan.

  • Expected outcomes and relevance to national development.

  • Academic records and proof of nationality.

  • Recommendation letters (where required).

  • A statement demonstrating their commitment to contributing to their home country after completing the programme.
