The University of Bayreuth Centre of International Excellence is now receiving applications for the 2026 Starter Grant Programme, which promotes excellent research and strengthens international collaboration across disciplines.
At the core of the center’s work is supporting academic exchange across boundaries: that is, cooperation between disciplines, cultures, countries, and established and younger researchers.
Funding and other benefits
- Successful applicants will receive €10,000 to cover all project realization costs.
- Grantees accompanied by at least one child receive an additional monthly family allowance of €250.
- Those who successfully complete their Starter Grant may apply for the follow-up “Booster Grant” worth €20,000, subject to documented results such as joint publications, organized workshops, conferences, or other demonstrable outcomes.
Who can apply?
- The Starter Grant Programme is open to all disciplines, with certain specific rulings for African Studies, and awards
- Applicants must be affiliated with institutions abroad and present challenging, innovative research projects of top academic quality.
- Applicants must show evidence of previous achievements, such as high-ranking publications and the potential for broader networking.
Extra application criteria
- Before applying, candidates must identify a researcher at the University of Bayreuth to act as a local host, who will provide office or lab space and infrastructure.
