The Reducing Conflict and Improving Performance in the Economy (ReCIPE) programme has opened its second call for Big Research Grants, supporting in-depth research that examines how economic forces shape conflict, peace and development.
The call targets ambitious projects that can generate new evidence, deepen understanding of conflict dynamics, and inform policy and practice in fragile and conflict-affected contexts.
Research aim
This funding supports research exploring how economic growth, inequality, institutions, and public policy influence conflict and stability.
Priority research areas include political economy; public policy and peacebuilding; investment and institutions; climate change and natural resources; gender and inequality; and the intersections of information, identity and conflict.
Proposed projects should contribute original data or analytical insights that help explain why conflict emerges and how it can be prevented or reduced.
Funding details
ReCIPE offers Big Research Grants of up to USD 125,000 to support ambitious, multi-year research projects.
The funding is intended for studies that require substantial resources and cannot be delivered through smaller grants. Applicants must provide a clear budget justification and demonstrate strong value for money.
Who can apply
The call is open to researchers worldwide, with strong encouragement for teams that include scholars based in low- and middle-income countries.
Eligible applicants include:
-
Researchers with a PhD or those currently enrolled in a PhD programme
-
Interdisciplinary research teams with strong track records
-
Applicants able to demonstrate capacity to manage large-scale research projects
PhD candidates may apply as lead investigators but must include a senior co-investigator and submit a supervisor’s letter of support.
Eligibility and selection notes
Projects must not include team members affiliated with Russian institutions, in line with current sanctions.
Proposals should also demonstrate a commitment to gender equality, environmental responsibility and inclusive research design throughout the research process.
Deadline
Interested applicants should apply via the CEPR website before January 27, 2026.
