PhD students working in the fields of conflict, democracy, and gender studies are invited to apply for the ReCIPE PhD Research Grants, a programme under Reducing Conflict and Improving Performance in the Economy (ReCIPE).

The grants aim to support original research that explores the intersection of conflict and economic performance, with a focus on promoting development, peace, and inclusive growth.

Research Themes

Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals aligned with one or more of the following themes:

  1. Public Policies for Peace

  2. Private and Public Investment and Peace

  3. Institutions, Democracy, and Peace

  4. Geoeconomics

  5. Climate Change, Natural Resources, and Conflict

  6. Information and Conflict

  7. Ethnic Diversity and Nation-Building

  8. Peacemaking, Peacebuilding, and Reconstruction

  9. Gender, Inequality, and Conflict

Grant Benefits

The PhD Research Grant can be used to support:

  • Research assistance and data collection

  • Purchase of data or access to datasets

  • Research stipends or teaching buyouts

  • Fieldwork-related travel—even when using secondary data

Eligibility Criteria

  • PhD students from any country are eligible to apply.

  • Collaborations between researchers from higher- and lower-income countries are encouraged.

  • Proposals involving researchers from Russian institutions will not be considered.

  • Multidisciplinary research teams are welcome.

  • Principal investigators must already be enrolled in a PhD programme.

  • Fieldwork in conflict or post-conflict settings will be considered on a case-by-case basis and must be approved by the applicant’s university.
