Nominations are now open for the Volvo Environment Prize, a global award recognising groundbreaking scientific achievements in the environmental field.

The prize honours outstanding innovations and discoveries that advance environmental science and contribute to global sustainability.

Prize Benefits

  • A cash award of SEK 1.5 million (approximately EUR 135,000 or USD 142,000).

Eligibility Criteria

Nominees must:

  • Be outstanding biologists or environmental scientists

  • Demonstrate scientific excellence and impact on policy and decision-making

  • Have an exceptional research and publication record with clear relevance to environmental sustainability

Nomination Requirements

Nominations must include:

  • A short letter of motivation

  • A detailed description of the nominee’s research and its contribution to environmental knowledge

  • The nominee’s CV and list of published papers

  • Three letters of reference (not written by the nominator)

  • All materials must be submitted in English

Additional Guidelines:

  • Group nominations (maximum of 3 individuals) must be submitted separately for each person, with a clear explanation that the nomination is for a shared prize

  • Self-nominations are not accepted

  • Nominations remain valid for three years
