The Pulitzer Center is now accepting applications for grants that support journalists in covering stories across the African continent that are often overlooked by mainstream media. This initiative provides funding for in-depth reporting projects, giving journalists the resources to bring important issues to a wider audience.

Focus and aims

The main goal of the grant is to fund projects that shed light on critical and systemic issues affecting African countries. The Pulitzer Center is looking for story proposals that go beyond typical headlines and have the potential to create a significant impact. The aim is to support journalism that enriches public understanding of complex topics on the continent.

Funding and benefits

Successful applicants receive financial support to cover the costs of their reporting projects, including travel and other related expenses. Most grant awards range from $5,000 to $15,000, though the final amount can be higher or lower depending on the specific needs and scope of the proposed project.

Who can apply for the Pulitzer Center grants?

  • The grant is for journalists, writers, photographers, radio producers, and filmmakers.
  • Both staff journalists and freelancers are welcome to apply.
  • Applicants are not required to have prior reporting experience in Africa.

Deadline

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, which means there is no strict deadline for submissions. Interested journalists should plan to apply at least six weeks before their intended travel date for the project. For more information, visit the Pulitzer Center website.
